So I Have this Idea for a Book...

I actually know a lot of people who are trying to write a book right now. Eric is working on one. My friend Lizz is always writing amazing things. My father is writing a couple at once! My friend Meg just finished hers and it will be published soon (congratulations!) and I just found this blog. It's written by Kristen. She also lives on board with her husband in Philadelphia and is working on writing a book. With all these people working so hard, I figured it was time to get serious about trying to write my own story down. No, not an autobiography, but a story that came to me in a dream during my pregnancy.

I've told the idea to my dad, to Meg, and to Eric, and with each telling I realize that I have at least the first three chapters already thought out and the back story, the history and the lore of the tale, grows stronger the more I dwell on it.

It's a fantasy book, so if  you aren't into the following, then you probably won't be interested in my book ;)

It will include:

A heroine! (of course)

Magic!

Another land:

A Pegasus plays a key part in the story:

And there will be adventure and voyages!

I think the hardest part will be starting, right? I've never attempted to write a book before, but I do like to write and this story won't go away. I've decided to set a timer and try to write for at least 20 minutes every day. I have some good friends that I'm going to ask to keep me accountable. 20 minutes. I can do that! Right?

As Yoda says, and as Eric often likes to repeat, "There is no try, only do."

this is WONDERFUL!

Do an outline, or treatment, first, and start in the middle. No dialog, no adverbs, just short simple sentences of where your characters are and what is happening.

Consider Nanowrimo: National Novel Writing Month: nanowrimo.org
The challenge is to write a novel, start to finish (or 50,000 words, whatever comes first) starting on Nov. 1 and ending on Nov. 30.
