Charlotte & Eric

[Charlotte is a teacher and crafter. She loves to travel and can speak English, Spanish, and French. Eric lives in a world of software, being fluent in C#, VB.Net, SQL, and things of that sort.]

I started sailing when I was fairly young, maybe 8 or so, and then throughout high school. But it wasn't anything intense or involved. The crazy stuff happened when I was on a fast attack submarine in the US Navy in the mid & late 90's. I had a 32' Ericson before our current Hans Christian, and sailed that rather frequently. I like to think I learned a lot of the obvious stuff on that boat, although every time I step foot on the Rebel Heart, I get to learn something new that I wonder how I was able to even leave the slip before knowing it.

Professionally, I lead the software development department of a large financial company in downtown San Diego. It's challenging, rewarding, and I get to work with some really amazing people. I'm a frequent speaker at Code Camp, ride my bicycle to work, and try to keep my blog fairly current.

Eric introduced me to the world of sailing when we first started dating in 2004. At first sailing was a big adventure – now it’s a big, serious adventure. There’s something that changes in your thinking when you realize that you’ll be doing this for a long time. You switch from a camping or ‘roughing it’ mindset to a ‘how-can-this-be-a-little-more-like-home’ type of thinking.

I’m currently teaching 9th grade humanities at a local high school and pursuing opening my own Etsy shop. These are some of the things I love: Eric, languages, yoga, traveling, and eating good chocolate. I’ve become more of a homebody in my late twenties and early thirties. I’m currently trying to teach myself how to be a really good cook, crafter, and seamstress. I like playing World of Warcraft. I love watching movies at home and having friends over for dinner.

I grew up in Alaska. I believe this gave me a love for excitement and for the great outdoors – it also makes me appreciate living in San Diego every day.
