The Crew: Charlotte, Eric, Cora, and Lyra

Late 30's, born on the east coast but primarily a Southern Californian at this point. Trying to balance a family, a job, fitness, and sailing a boat around the world.

I'm a USCG licensed captain and in addition to my day job for a financial services company I do charters and deliveries. Also, I'm an avid scuba diver and a PADI Divemaster. Part time I work as a wilderness guide for Forge Right.

Eric introduced me to the world of sailing when we first started dating in 2004. In the beginning, sailing was a big adventure – now it’s a big, serious adventure. There’s something that changes in your thinking when you realize that you’ll be doing this for a long time. You switch from a camping or ‘roughing it’ mindset to a ‘how-can-this-be-a-little-more-like-home’ type of thinking.

I’m the founder of Red Charlotte, I also write on our blog, and for publications like San Diego Magazine. I'm a former high school teacher with a double California high school teaching credential in English and Social Studies. I have also taught English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) in France and America and am TESL/TESOL certified.

And if being a wife, mom, entrepreneur, and writer isn't enough (because it isn't!), I am currently editing my first novel and hope to submit it to publishers in the spring of 2014.

These are some of the things I love: Eric, Cora, Lyra, languages, baby and toddler wearing, yoga, traveling, and eating good chocolate. I grew up in Alaska. I believe this gave me a love for excitement and for the great outdoors and adventure.

Cora is the munchkin that joined us in July of 2010. She likes motorcycles and bicycles, sailboats and trucks, sailing, and paddleboarding (SUP), all kinds of animals, playing with her baby sister, and reading. Cora's birth story is here

Lyra is our newest crew member. She loves breastfeeding and being in our arms, facing out, and seeing what her older sister is up to. Stay tuned for more awesomeness from our littlest munchkin. Lyra's birth story is here.
